Oregon Karen Association Farm
The Oregon Karen Association Farm is a one-acre community farm located in Boring, Oregon, and funded by the Oregon Food Bank. This program was created to address food insecurity while preserving Karen cultural practices through agriculture.
The farm focuses on growing culturally specific vegetables that are essential in traditional Karen cooking. These crops not only nourish families but also reconnect the community with familiar tastes, traditions, and farming knowledge.
Community members and volunteers are actively involved in the entire growing cycle — planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting. On designated distribution days, fresh produce is shared with families either on-site or through OKA’s Free Food Market, making nutritious, culturally meaningful food more accessible.
In addition to improving food access, the farm program strengthens community ties, promotes health and wellness, and provides a space for cultural connection through shared work and traditional farming practices.
